New York MC Cory Gunz was living up to his rap moniker this weekend when police arrested the 24-year-old rapper for possession of a loaded gun.
According to MTV News, Gunz, the son of hip hop veteran Peter Gunz, was taken into custody by NYPD officers on Saturday afternoon. The senior Gunz spoke to MTV News about the incident.
"The details are still sketchy, but I can confirm that he was
arrested with a firearm yesterday in the Bronx," Gunz told MTV News.
"They caught him around 2 p.m. in the afternoon with a loaded gun in his
knapsack."
"It was definitely an illegal search," Peter added.
Despite his stage name, Cory Gunz has never had any serious brushes
with the law. The supremely talented rhyme slinger is currently signed
to Lil Wayne’s Young Money label. Aware of the strict gun laws in New
York City (the same laws that sent Lil Wayne to jail for 8-months on a firearm charge) Peter doesn’t believe his son’s clean record will play a major factor when it’s time to go to court.
"This is Cory's first offense, but sometimes they like to make an
example out of rappers and people with any kind of celebrity to them,”
said the concerned father, who starred alongside his son in the MTV
reality show, Son of a Gun, in 2011.
"At the end of the day, there's a reason for everything, but at the
same time, in New York, it's mandatory jail time," he said. "To go to a
precinct and see your son, your junior, in handcuffs, it's
heartbreaking. Anytime you see your child in jail, in the cell, in
handcuffs, it's very hard. He's walked down some of the same paths that I
walked down, but you never want to see your kids go through what you
went through.” - BET
