Air Jordan brand commissioned then-11-year-old Cole Johanson to design a pair of Air Jordan 3s for its charitable Doernbecher Freestyle program. The words “COURAGE” and “STR3NGTH” adorning each insole that helped the young designer beat his lymphoma.
“Those are the two things you need the most,” he said. “Especially courage. I mean, everyone has it, the trick is just not letting it go when hard things happen."
Nike will rerelease his special edition Air Jordan 3s on July 20 at Nike.com and select retail outlets across America with all proceeds benefiting the Doernbecher Children’s Hospital Foundation. Limited to 1 per customer, the 2013 edition of the Air Jordan 3 Retro Doernbecher Freestyle “Cole Johanson” will retail for $160 USD – a small donation to a wonderful cause.
