Tupac Shakur on Life and Death | Blank on Blank | PBS Digital Studios

"I’m not really that educated, you know. And I’m not really a religious person. But I believe that God wants me to do something and it has to do with Thug Life.”- Tupac Shakur

On September 7th, 1996, America lost one of its most controversial, yet beloved, rappers of all time: Tupac Shakur.  In this edition of “Blank on Blank,” PBS Digital Studios rewinds to a 1994 interview where the artist and actor rails against the events taking place in his life, including his sexual assault charges, his relationship with the press, and Dan Quayle’s attack on his music.

Through reproduction and animation, “Blank on Blank" brings back to life riveting stories from American newsmakers on previously unheard interview tapes that would otherwise be lost forever. Created by former TV producer and print journalist David Gerlach, “Blank on Blank” refers to the “interviewee X on subject Y” format of the recordings.

"If I was white I would have been like John Wayne... I feel like a tragic hero in a Shakespeare play" - Tupac Shakur
