Farley Chatto “Tzar Nicholas II” Collection: A reasoning success at World MasterCard Fashion Week 

Farley Chatto debuted his “Tzar Nicholas II” Winter 2016 collection at World MasterCard Fashion Week on Thursday evening to critical acclaim. The collection, inspired by the last monarch of Russia, took into account the opulent furs and jewels that the Romanov family often sported.

With lavish gowns, outerwear and accessories for men and women, Chatto’s collection had key sponsorship from NAFA, whose Origin Assured furs indicate that they are sustainably produced in countries where there are governing regulations surrounding the fur industry.

A sumptuous palette of mink, silver fox, sable and chinchilla furs were combined with wild long-sheared beaver, lynx, coyote and racoon to create a unique look. The silhouettes ooze drama with long, fitted and flowing cuts, intricate beading and plush fabrics. Czar Nicholas’ military style of dress was evident in the collection, with fur sashes, officer-style peacoats and traditional Russian headwear dominating the runway. The show’s closing look, a beaded white wedding gown with a fur capelet, was a stand-out.

Farley Chatto is a Toronto-based designer with a global clientele who is renowned for his eponymous line of haute couture menswear launched in 1988. Over the course of more than 25 years in the fashion and design industry, he has dressed such notable celebrities as Sarah Jessica Parker, Chris Noth, Drake, Elton John, and George Clooney. Chatto has also amassed an impressive list of corporate clients, including MAC Cosmetics, Virgin, Barbie, Veuve Clicquot, Louis Vuitton and Target Canada.
