Musicworks' 2015 Contests Now Open

MUSICWORKS’ 5th ANNUAL ELECTRONIC MUSIC COMPOSITION CONTEST NOW OPEN

Juried contest offers top three winners cash prizes and publication
in Canada’s acclaimed magazine about experimental music and sound art 


Musicworks’ 2015 contests are now open to receive entries from anywhere in the world! Musicworks is Canada’s only magazine that explores experimental music. Its two annual juried contests spotlight new literary and musical talent, offering cash prizes and opportunities to be published and heard.

Electronic Music Composition Contest
Compose a piece in one of the following experimental genres: Acousmatic, Electroacoustic, Glitch, Intelligent Dance Music, Turntable Art, or Video music. Maximum length: 10 minutes. Accepted file types: MP3 or MP4 only. $30 entry fee includes a one-year subscription to Musicworks magazine; $5 each additional entry (unlimited).


First Prize: $500 cash, a composer profile in Musicworks magazine and on musicworks.ca AND
your composition released on the Musicworks companion CD
Second Prize: $200 cash AND a composer profile on musicworks.ca
Third Prize: $100 cash AND a composer profile on musicworks.ca

Also check out our “Sonic Geography” Writing Contest: Describe how sound shapes your experience in 500 wordsEchoes in a Lisbon square, waterdrops from an Iceland glacier, birds in a Buenos Aires barrio, or the noise of your own neighbourhood—these are just some of the sound that have inspired contributors to our regular “Sonic Geography” column. The first-prize-winning essay will be published in our regular column space. Accepted file types: PDF only.

Since 1978, Musicworks has been dedicated to the development of new and passionate audiences for experimental music. Published three times a year with accompanying CDs, Musicworks features in-depth articles on Canadian and international composers, improvisers, instrument designers, and artists who work in genres such as radio, electroacoustics, concert music, sound installation, and sound sculpture. With a dynamic website and outreach programs, Musicworks creates an inclusive community within which to exchange and develop ideas, and excite curious listeners with adventurous music.
