Singer Ann Marie Talks Going the Independent Route After Signing to Interscope, and Being "Tripolar" on the Latest Episode of The Baller Alert Show

Baller Alert has just dropped its latest episode of The Baller Alert Show, featuring a sit-down interview with recording artist Ann Marie.  The "Secret" singer joined the cast to discuss going independent after signing to Interscope, the meaning behind "Tripolar," her celibacy journey, and more.

9:30 Ann Marie Talks Growing Up in Chicago

"It had it's pros and cons..." "It's home but it's so much sh*t [going on.]. A lot of different sh*t in our community going on. But it had its fun times-- my homies, my friends, my family, the food. It's a dope place." 

She also describes a darker part about growing up in Chicago, detailing horrific events like women's bodies being found in abandoned buildings on her block. 

10:30 Finding Her Way to Music 

"My uncle, God rest his soul, he started me when I was real young on this karaoke machine. I use to sing this Whitney Houston song-- My Love is Your Love. Then from there I kept writing poetry and did school talent shows." 

She then detailed her dad and uncle being her musical influences.

"2019 I went on my first solo tour. It was myself, Vedo was the opening act... It was a couple a people on the show."

"That happened, then at the time, I dropped "Secret" and "Handle It" so all the labels was coming out. Every label you can think of was on my ass. But someone from Interscope—they was the first person who seen me. I felt like that person believed in me at the time so it was a no brainer."

"I just felt like the mainstream route wasn't for me. I just like to do my own sh*t. I kind of move off my emotions." 

She credits "God" for getting her out of the deal. But then elaborates saying, "Let's just say they weren't holding up their end of the bargain."

 "When I came up with it, it was like mad, sad and happy. The three emotions I kept going through."

On overcoming it: "If I'm being honest I'm still trying to figure that out... I've been to therapy, it dont really do nothing or me. I use to be a big drinker then I stopped drinking, then I started the celibacy thing. Music use to be my outlet, but now it's a job so it's kind of hard." Ann Marie says she's been celibate for the last three years.
