Celebrating 50 Years of Hip Hop with Chuck D and Special Guests
He is described as a social activist, multimedia producer, visual artist, and digital music pioneer and the leader and frontman of the legendary group Public Enemy and we are thrilled to have Chuck D return to CMW this year for back-to-back sessions celebrating 50 years of hip hop with us.
Aside from being a part of one of the most beloved hip hop groups of all time, Chuck D has also been featured in over 100 documentaries on a wide range of topics, including music, technology, politics, and race. He co-curated the Smithsonian Anthology of Hip Hop and has been a national spokesperson for Rock the Vote, the National Urban League, Americans for the Arts Council, and the National Alliance for African-American Athletes.
Canadian hip hop pioneer, actor and author Maestro Fresh Wes will be hosting both sessions on Thursday, June 8th, with the first session beginning at 1pm until 1:45pm ET. Chuck D will be showing part 1 of 4 of his new docuseries "FIGHT THE POWER: HOW HIP HOP CHANGED THE WORLD". The series explores four decades of Hip Hop history featuring interviews with legendary artists Ice-T, Fat Joe, Run DMC, MC Lyte and more. This session will be hosted by Canadian hip hop pioneer, actor and author Maestro Fresh Wes.
Developed and Executive Produced by Chuck D and his producing partner, Lorrie Boula, the series tells the story of hip hop as an organic expression of experience that was unapologetic, fierce and empowering as it spoke truth to power and informed a nation through a different lens.
Following the screening from 2pm - 2:45 pm ET, will be an in-depth conversation with Chuck D alongside B-Real, rapper who is known for being a part of groups such as, Cypress Hill, Kush, Serial Killers and Prophets of Rage and Lorrie Boula, producer, author and founder of Soul Kitchen Music, an artist management and consulting company. Chuck D, Lorrie and B-Real will discuss the importance of the 50th anniversary of hip hop, how it shaped the minds of generations and the contributions they've made within the history of hip hop.
