Jimi Hendrix’s final interview took place in London a week before he died, in September 1970.  The rock legend told well-known music press agent Keith Altham, “one time I said ‘maybe I should burn a guitar tonight – smash a guitar or something like that…I’ll just work up enough anger so I can do it’” He added “…I believe everybody should have a room where they can get rid of all their releases.  My room is a stage.”

In this edition of “Blank on Blank,” PBS Digital Studios rewinds to that historic conversation, where Jimi talks about his politics, his image, his money and his songs. 

Through reproduction and animation, “Blank on Blank" brings back to life riveting stories from American newsmakers on unheard interview tapes that would otherwise be lost forever. Created by former TV producer and print journalist David Gerlach, “Blank on Blank” refers to the “interviewee X on subject Y” format of the recordings. This particular episode was made in production with Rock’s Back Pages, who possess the original interview in their archives.
