 Alternative hip-hop collective Death By Icon release their newest single, "Namesake," from their upcoming debut LP, Hassah. As featured by Mista Jam on BBC Radio 1Xtra, the track features vocals from avant pop artist Deer Emerson. It is inspired by the group’s favorite Biggie track, “Party and Bullsh*t,” and a jazzy, instrumental cover of “I’ll Be There” by Johnny Hammond.
 

Having already gained much hype and recognition from urban elitists, including Pigeons and Planes, The Music Ninja, DJ Booth, МИШКА and Afropunk, Death By Icon is the newest brainchild from Chicago's pool of hip-hop makers. The group is MC Vic, MC and producer Ant and producer Dook; they perform live as a duo (Vic and Ant) and come together as a trio in the studio. Cross-pollinating various pockets of the genre, their sonically-driven, anthemic productions "stand out completely as their own by way of playfully honest lyrics and charismatic vocals, complemented by spastically vibrant, percussion-driven instrumentals." (The Music Ninja) Vic and Ant each bring their own elements to the word game — hearty banter versus harmonious flows— while Dook provides perfectly off-kilter, experimental beats. ​​"A true gem that is one of 2014's most vibrant albums," (MADE Blog) Death By Icon's debut project Trybecca was named one of the "Best Overlooked Chicago Hip-Hop Releases of 2014" by The Chicago Reader.
