Flavour Additions That Will Please Your Palate
Tasty Recipe Ideas Using Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar
Gone are the days of using Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar solely to give your mixed greens a flavour boost. These two fabulous ingredients are now on top of the foodie trends to look out for due to their infinite number of uses and health benefits.
“It’s an exciting time to be experimenting in the kitchen” says Richard Jorgensen, President and CEO of OLiV International Inc. “You can really explore your own personal flavour palate and discover new recipes with the endless options of Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar food pairings.”
OLiV Tasting Room has developed a number of flavour-infused Premium Extra Virgin Olive Oils (EVOO) and True Balsamic Vinegars which make the perfect pair for a number of dishes. Try some of the following pairings and get your own creative oils flowing.
Drizzle OLiV Director’s Reserve EVOO and OLiV Mango Dark Balsamic Vinegar over your mozzarella and cherry tomatoes. In addition to basil leaves, and the usual salt and pepper, these delicious ingredients will give a unique flavour boost to this common snack.
Rim a highball glass with celery salt, fill with ice and add your booze or leave virgin if preferred. Then add OLiV Chili Balsamic and Worcestershire sauce, top the glass with Clamato juice and garnish with a lime wedge, a few olives and your choice of pickled veg. This Canadian cocktail is perfect for any season.
Add OLiV Curry EVOO to your favourite sweet potato soup for an even richer and more delicious taste. The healthier option of adding EVOO instead of butter or heavy cream to your dishes will make any guilty pleasure, non-guilty.
Strawberry and Oranges
Slice up a fresh orange and a handful of strawberries. Drizzle OLiV Blood Orange EVOO and OLiV White Balsamic Vinegar. It is a simple and natural way to add a zest of sweet, citrus flavour to your favourite fresh fruits. Serve this dish for breakfast, lunch or dessert and you’ll be sure to impress family and friends.
In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and sugar. Once dissolved, add OLiV Banana White Balsamic Vinegar and let it cook for one minute, then add your bananas and cinnamon and turn gently for 2-3 additional minutes. While still hot, serve over a large scoop(s) of vanilla ice cream and enjoy!
“The perfect pairing comes from being adventurous and risky in the kitchen,” says Richard. “Sometimes the oddest flavours make for the most fantastic dishes. Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar are now used for so many dishes so it is up to you to decide what you want to serve next.”

ABOUT OLiV Tasting Room:
OLiV started in 2011 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, by founding partners, Awie and Isabeau du Toit. Together they created a retail shop dedicated to Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar after acquiring property in a wine producing area in the Western Cape province of South Africa. The land acquisition combined with the bottles of Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar set in motion a chain of events that has resulted into a fully developed Olive farm in South Africa. With the addition of two new partners, OLiV has expanded rapidly across Canada, with stores in Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, and Manitoba.
