10-year Old With Brain Tumor Unable To Sing At Globetrotters Game // .@Globies

Harlem Globetrotters Brings Smiles

During a visit to SickKids in Toronto on Friday, two Harlem Globetrotters learned about the story of Maya Kolbasnick, who has a brain tumor.  The 10-year old Kitchener native was meant to sing the national anthem with her choir at the Globetrotters game on April 19, but was unexpectedly hospitalized with a complication to her shunt.

Broadcast and online media are approved to use the previously unreleased video below.  It shows Globetrotters’ stars Zeus McClurkin and El Gato Melendez during their special visit to Maya’s room to perform tricks and smile with the brave little girl.

Interviewed in the video was Maya’s mom, Alexandra Kolbasnik.

The Globetrotters’ visit to SickKids comes on the heels of their Canadian tour.  The team offered tickets to the Kolbasniks for any game of their choice so Maya’s brother and other family members can see the team play.

The Globetrotters tour includes games in Toronto (April 13), London (April 15), Kitchener (April 19), Mississauga (April 21), and Hamilton (April 22).  The full Canadian schedule is available at www.HarlemGlobetrotters.ca.
