"WASTIN' TIME" OFF UPCOMING PROJECT

Following her debut EP, Drums and Emotions, Nigerian-American artist OWO shares the music video for "Wastin' Time", a single from her upcoming project. The song speaks to the value of "time" played out through the eyes of a failing situationship, backed by the electronic and live sonics of djembe, kashishi, and guitar produced by Kashaka.

OWO's upcoming project set to be released this year. The project is set to delve into the world of first-generation angst through the lens of a young woman navigating the ins-and-outs of love, familial expectations, and self-exploration. "The "Wastin' Time" video, premiering today on PAPER, represents this thesis well, while showcasing how Black excellence transcends time. Alongside the video's director Ade Alao, OWO creates a series of images meant to represent the beauty, power and vibrance of Black culture. She pays homage to her African roots throughout the clip, from an African ballerina played by Chinna Njoku to a djembe drummer played by Kerian Cox. OWO herself is alternately shown as a queen, a warrior and dancer." -- PAPER

ABOUT OWO:
Finding solace in the intersecting spaces between genre and cultural influences alike, singer-songwriter OWO has been developing her vibrant and emotive artistry. As a first-generation child, born to Nigerian parents with roots in the Bahia region of Brazil, OWO experiences embrace a duality between her African ancestry and American upbringing which is found in her music today. The encouragement to further express herself creatively only strengthened over time, inspiring OWO to find ways to merge her multifarious musical palate into her own distinctive sound, which she later dubbed as Afro-Electro-R&B. Establishing herself as an originator of a forward-thinking, fluid genre became an organic and empowering awakening, with OWO's dedication to showcasing the vastness of African, American and R&B cultures alike the driving force behind her work.

With a reignited focus to go all in with pursuing her artistry, OWO began writing and co-producing her own music, as well as found herself at home on the stage as a performer. In 2017, she released her Drums and Emotions EP, a 6-track offering that introduces her ability to navigate between African dance rhythms, R&B harmonies, hints of electronic music and powerful rock vocals reminiscent of the 1970s. The vibrant, polished EP garnered recognition and support in several ways, ranging from being premiered exclusively by OkayAfrica to being featured on TIDAL Rising. She also was interviewed for an in-depth feature with Nylon Magazine, showcasing how her journey in the arts has been a lively accumulation of her personal experiences and the wisdom from those who helped pave the way.

OWO can be found happily working on her full-length project, where she aims to continue building on themes of fearlessness, strength, vulnerability, love and culture. OWO is well on her way to fulfilling her destiny as a powerhouse performer, fueled by ambition and guided by spirits past and present.
