HAVEN / PORTER Range

A NAME SYNONYMOUS WITH JAPANESE QUALITY

The story of Yoshida & Co. begins over 100 years ago in 1918, when Kichizo Yoshida began training in bag making at just 12 years old. By 1935, Yoshida was an expert craftsman and he decided to launch his own atelier ‘Yoshida Kaban Seisakujo’ in the Kandasuda-cho neighborhood of Tokyo. In 1951, during the difficult aftermath of WW2, Yoshida reformed the company as Yoshida & Co., Ltd and relocated to its current day head offices in Higashi-Kanda.

The company’s now iconic Porter brand was officially launched in 1962 and was the company’s first private label at a time when most domestic Japanese makers were only sub-contracted from other brands. This decision would prove to be key to the brands success, and through its impeccable quality and unique branding it quickly gained a large and devoted following both in Japan and eventually across the globe. PORTER believes that every product holds the craftsmens heart and soul into every stitch and therefore each bag is meticulously thought out from conception, fabric, hardware, usability, and final  production. Today the Porter brand is still run by the family of Kichizo Yoshida and each product continues to be made in Japan by the hand of skilled craftsmen.
