The World's Funniest Fashion Models
Betabrand unveils Fall collection on top comedy writers, stand-ups.
In what's surely a fashion first, Betabrand unveiled its Fall collection on models who work blue -- specifically the top writers for shows like Colbert Report, The Mindy Show, and Parks & Rec.
This follows a popular Spring campaign where the online retailer launched its women's line on the backs and brains of PhDs. Fourteen top comic minds model this season's creations and Margaret Cho unveils an original design.
Says Betabrand founder, Chris Lindland, "We're building our brand
around smart women, so it only makes sense to start with doctorates and
smart-allecks."
Thanks to
this approach, the historically male clothing company has evened out its
audience in 10 months. According to Lindland, "Our best sellers this
year have been Dress Pant Yoga Pants & Black Sheep Wrap Sweaters, and we can barely keep up with demand. I'd love to think it's our choice of models."
Anyone can be a model or designer on Betabrand
-- and you don't have to an advanced degree or be famously funny.
Over 35,000 amateur models have graced the pixels of the e-tailer and
over 1000 have uploaded fashion designs. Says Lindland, "Fashion can
have a decidedly different look online and ours is a funnier, hopefully
smarter approach."
