FASHION ON YONGE CELEBRATES FASHION AND COMMUNITY IN DOWNTOWN YONGE

Downtown Yonge brings together community and fashion lovers in Toronto’s core fashion district with the 4th annual Fashion on Yonge event on Wednesday September 7, 2016.

Presented by the Downtown Yonge Business Improvement Area (DYBIA), Fashion on Yonge features three themed runway shows showcasing 300 seasonal outfits from local fashion retailers.

“Whether you’re looking for women’s or men’s apparel, accessories or footwear, you’ll find them at Fashion on Yonge,” says DYBIA executive director Mark Garner. “While you’re here, make sure you sample food and beauty services from local businesses and enjoy the on-site model styling.”

Fashion on Yonge is about much more than fall fashion trends. Like DYBIA, the event focuses on community collaboration and supporting the creative fashion industry.

This year, Fashion on Yonge takes place in the Church of Holy Trinity and Trinity Square Park.

“The unconventional venue helps to shine a light on sometimes-overlooked gems in the neighbourhood,” explains Garner. “For our retailers, it provides a unique platform, a greater presence and helps build stronger ties to the community that already loves their fashion brands.”

As part of DYBIA’s commitment to growing local talent, emerging designers from the Toronto Film School will be sharing their designs on the runway for the second year in a row. These students represent the future of the Canadian design industry, which grows Downtown Yonge’s fashion sector, and builds the brands of tomorrow.

The 4th annual Fashion on Yonge event kicks off on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. in Trinity Square Park. Three themed runway shows – urban, vibe and chic – will take place at 6 p.m., with additional shows at 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place at 19 Trinity Square.

Tickets are required for entry to the runway shows because space inside the Church is limited. But a video wall in Trinity Square Park will ensure that the audience in the park will still have front-row seats.
