The R&B Version of Kanye's The College Dropout

A musical breath of fresh air has been released as iamchelseaiam released her promised EP “A Beautiful Struggle”. Imagine SZA mixed with the versatility of Lauryn Hill and you’ll still fall short of this brilliant sonic offering. The twenty-four-minute EP is the follow-up to 2018’s “A Beautiful Mess” and is proof that iamchelseaiam has not only discovered what she does well but that she also is gifted in conveying even the most polarizing aspects of life.

“A Beautiful Struggle” is a project that takes many different sonic twists. Some songs anchor you to the traditional acoustic production that has characterized iamchelseaiam throughout much of her career; while others like “Pretty Girls” feature full production usually found on heavy pop records. With introspective interludes touching on everything from family dynamics to social injustice, “A Beautiful Struggle” evokes emotions familiar to the first listen of “The College Dropout” in 2004. 

While many listeners have compared iamchelseaiam to Joyce Wright,  she considers Alex Isley, Gwenn Bunn, and Ari Lennox to also be musical peers of a similar style. And her newly released music video for “Won’t” highlights iamchelseaiam’s desire to tell stories and touch people’s souls.

 

As if all this weren’t enough, iamchelseaiam has recently announced to her fans that she will be returning to the live stage and touring later this year. “A Beautiful Struggle” is now available on all music outlets and DSPs.
