Toronto's Red Carpet Hair Salon Wins 2024 Contessa Award

Hairstylist Mamak Tabatabaei, owner of Red Carpet Hair Salon, has been honoured with first place recognition in The Canadian Hairstylist of the Year Awards – The Contessas – for 2024 Avant Garde Hairstylist. With over 1,000 beauticians in attendance, the 35th annual Contessa Awards gala was held on November 12th, 2023 at the Westin Harbour Castle in Toronto, acknowledging artists across Canada within the beauty industry on their talents and creativity.

Mamak, her daughter Sarina Seyed, and her colleagues Fariba Sabouri and Shirin Karimzadeh created their Tavoos collection (“tavoos” meaning “peacock” in Farsi) and won in their very first time competing in the national photo-based competition.

“Hairstyling is an art,” said Tabatabaei. “The Avant Garde category showcases daring and cutting-edge artistry and mastery in colour, texture and creativity. My team and I challenged ourselves beyond our boundaries. With months of daring creativity, dedication, tribulations and lots of hairspray, we are thrilled to have Salon Magazine recognize our craft.”

Tabatabaei discovered her passion for hairstyling while growing up, playing in her mother’s hair salon and hair school in Iran as a child. In 2009, she established Red Carpet Hair Salon and has since earned a reputation as one of Toronto’s most sought-out hairstylists, admired for her passion and the quality of work.
