As America commemorated the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist
attacks along with it came a fresh attack against American troops in
Afghanistan and the threat of another at home.
In New York and Washington, DC, where memorial services were being
held for the thousands of people who died in the 2001 attacks, security
was ramped up after a “credible” source revealed that three men, two
American citizens, were plotting a major attack to mar the events.
The angst created by the threat of fresh attacks caused government
officials to take extra precaution with any potential issues. In one
reported event F-16 fighter jets were scrambled to escort an American
Airlines flight from Los Angeles to New York when three passengers
locked themselves in bathrooms. The plane safely landed and the
passengers were deemed non-threatening, but “incompliant” with airline
policy.
A truck-bombing in Afghanistan injured 77 US troops and killed two
Afghan civilians in the early hours of Sunday (September 11) morning. -KIDULT
