Bronx-born Maxine Ashley is a soulful & sassy 20-year-old misfit
with a mesmerizing voice and a rebel spirit. She defies conventions with
her adventurous music and style, loves the Smiths as much as Beyonce,
and refuses to keep her big mouth shut! Her YouTube Channel has over
12,000,000 views of her spellbinding covers of R&B hits recorded in
her bedroom. Maxine's magnetic performances in the videos soon made fans
and champions out of fellow artists like Pharrell Williams and Kerry
"Krucial" Brothers, both of whom recorded with her. Maxine has traded
her bedroom for the studios of New York and London where she's developed
a cosmopolitan mix of urban pop, R&B, electronic music, and soul
that is undoubtedly from New York but ready for the world.
Her guest appearance on Italian DJ Alex Gaudino's single, "I'm in Love", for Ministry of Sound was a smash hit with radio and club DJs across Europe. She also had a track handpicked by Lanvin to soundtrack the fashion label's Spring/Summer 2012 collection. These were only the first steps of her international takeover. The buzz is about to get deafening this September with the release of Maxine's debut, the Mood Swings EP presented by Krucial Noise. The EP features production by Kerry "Krucial" Brothers as well as Pharrell Williams and a cover of the Portishead classic "Glory Box" which is also the first video from the EP. A seductive elegance comes off Maxine as she begins her soul-stirring rendition of the song in a grand foyer, the black and white film underscoring the splendor and a knowing look in Maxine's eye. As the rhythm explodes, the screen bursts into color and Maxine takes the song to a different place no one else can create. She is the unexpected pop of color and emotion we didn't know we needed until it's there.
