On Friday, December 18th for the 3rd year in a row The WorldStar Foundation, charitable arm of WorldStarHipHop led by Lee “Q” O’Denat, enlisted the help of some of radios biggest names in DJ Mustard and Kid Ink to come out and help equip the less fortunate and often times forgotten citizens of Los Angeles; the residents of Skid Row. With homelessness and its increasing numbers being a hot button issue here in Los Angeles, Q, who was formerly homeless himself felt even more compelled to contribute in whatever way he and the WorldStar team could in order to better the current situation. Residents of Skid Row quickly flooded the Rotary House Homeless Shelter where WorldStar began to give away more than 1,000 care packages filled with essentials including; blankets, scarves, beanies, toys for the children, sanitary wipes, personal hygiene items as well as a pre-boxed meals provided by Subway. With the help of L.A. Barber College residents of Skid Row also received free haircuts from 8 a.m. – 12 noon, which made all the difference in the world for some of the residents who haven’t had a chance to receive proper haircuts in quite some time, hearing reactions such as: “This fresh haircut has me feeling like a new man! I appreciate you guys doing this.”, which is what a veteran and current resident of the Rotary House told one of the barbers as he looked his haircut over in the mirror. Residents of Skid Row gleefully danced their way down to receive care packages, singing songs and reciting lyrics from both Kid Ink and DJ Mustard ballads as they approached both aforementioned artists in awe that the people who make some of their favorite songs were right there in front of them on Skid Row handing out items themselves to residents, showing how music transcends socioeconomic status, local etc. and helps some escape the harsh realities they face on a daily basis. Next year we plan to make an even larger impact!
