Back again for another edition of Toronto Men’s Fashion Week, Montreal based label XIAN is fresh from designer Xian Wang’s successful FW17 collection debut. This collection received much fanfare and international coverage, including the highly coveted Fall issues of British GQ and Italian Vogue. Originally from Shanghai, China designer Xian Wang’s label XIAN, has also appeared in several Chinese media outlets and seen on influential Chinese celebrities.

The new line is aptly named RUSH as designer Xian Wang, always inspired by his surroundings, tends to be in metropolitan urban cities. RUSH exemplifies the beauty of the concrete jungle, mixing XIAN's trademark Black, White, and Grey, flashes of red on linings and decorative hand-stitched embroidery accents.

XIAN’s fascination with fabric and texture is striking as, once again, he does not shy away from mixing textiles. One standout in the RUSH collection is the trademark skull, representing life’s problems. When placed on the simplistic beauty of a basic t-shirt with a metallic texture, it becomes a symbol of overcoming life’s hardships with beauty.
Another symbolic embellishment in this collection is the Black and White King Snake, inspired not only from the designers love of reptiles, but his last name Wang, which translates to ‘The King’ in Mandarin.

Traditionally in Chinese culture, red is very lucky, but to XIAN, red also represents, joy, passion, and the love he puts into his collections. Xian uses red accents to provide emotion, cognitive energy, and courage to an often cold urban landscape.

XIAN’s signature Neoprene returns in RUSH, along with classic summer fabrics like cotton, denim, and linen to round out a classic tailored menswear collection. XIAN chose the fabrics for those in a rush and who need their clothes to keep up with their lifestyle.

XIAN’s goal was a ready to wear collection, a mix of style and simplicity for the modern man to pick up and go, easily combined with other elements in his closet, and suitable for an urban city lifestyle. Wang, whose own life is always in flux, states “with our current environment, lives are busier, and with such a fast pace, we have to relate our clothes to real life. When I made this collection, I thought about my own life. I needed my clothes to be functional and keep up with me, coordinating pieces that can work together or separately with other items, so there is always functionality in the garments.”

XIAN’s latest work with international media and talent is a precursor to future shows on other notable runways like Shanghai Fashion Week and Grande Dame, Paris Fashion Week. We look forward to celebrating this fearless artist with you in the upcoming years...
