With one month remaining until kickoff, U SPORTS is
pleased to announce The Trews as the featured musical act for the halftime
performance at the 53rd ArcelorMittal Dofasco Vanier Cup.
The Trews is one of Canada's most successful rock
bands of the past decade, earning 17 Top 10 rock radio singles (including two
No.1 hits) and two gold-certified albums (House Of Ill Fame; Den Of Thieves). The
quartet, composed of the lead vocalist/guitarist Colin MacDonald, lead
guitarist John-Angus MacDonald, bassist Jack Syperek and drummer Gavin Maguire
has also received multiple East Coast MusicAwards, a CIMA Road Gold Award, an
Independent Music Award (US) in 2009 for Best Rock / Metal Song, and numerous
JUNO Award nominations.
Originally from Antigonish, N.S. and based in
Hamilton, Ont., The Trews have played over 1,000 shows of their own worldwide,
as well as supporting the Rolling Stones, KISS, Robert Plant, Guns 'n Roses,
Kid Rock and Bruce Springsteen. Hamiltonians and Canadian football fans can
expect to hear their top hits and a potential exclusive new track at the 53rd
installment of the Vanier Cup on Nov. 25.

2017 ArcelorMittal Dofasco Vanier Cup in our newly adopted hometown of
Hamilton, Ont.,” said John-Angus MacDonald, lead guitarist for The Trews. “We
hope to add a little rock ’n’ roll energy to what is sure to be an exciting
day!”
The Trews become the newest act to play the Vanier Cup
halftime show, following other notable acts such as Tokyo Police Club, Ill
Scarlett and the Arkells.
“We want to create a complete game-day experience for
the 53rd ArcelorMittal Dofasco Vanier Cup,” said Graham Brown,
President and CEO of U SPORTS. “There is no better scenario than having a
locally-based and nationally successful band performing at halftime in their
home city. “This event will be a community celebration in the long history of
Hamilton football that no one from the area – university football fan or not –
will want to miss."
Prior to the game, starting at 11:00 a.m. ET on the South Plaza of Tim Hortons Field, a Fanfest will welcome fans, friends and families to enjoy the start of the 53rd Vanier Cup. There will be plenty of free samples of food and refreshments including McDonald’s of Hamilton coffee, tasty Maple Lodge Farms sausages and hot dogs, Old Dutch potato chips and Red Bull. Fans can learn how to Train With Grains at the Grain Farmers of Ontario station and check out the latest event merchandise. Vanier Fanfest will also feature the Molson Beer Garden and live music on the Red Bull stage.
Sportsnet and TVA Sports are once
again the official broadcasters of the U SPORTS football semifinals and final
in 2017... The Uteck Bowl (OUA at AUS, 12:30 p.m. ET / 9:30 am
PT) and the Mitchell Bowl (RSEQ at Canada West, 4 p.m. ET / 1
p.m. PT) are set for Saturday, Nov. 18, while the ArcelorMittal
Dofasco Vanier Cup follows on Saturday, Nov. 25 at 1 p.m. ET / 10
a.m. PT at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton... For all the information

About the ArcelorMittal Dofasco Vanier Cup
The ArcelorMittal Dofasco Vanier Cup, the championship
game for Canadian university football, is one of the country’s most storied
sporting events. The first national championship game, then called the Canadian
College Bowl, was won by Laval University of on Nov. 20, 1965. Two years later,
a playoff system was instituted by the governing body for Canadian university
sport. The title contest became the Vanier Cup in 1982, named in honour of
Canada’s first Governor General, Georges Vanier.
