How much can you really know about another person? The
unsettling truth that even those closest to us can harbor hidden dimensions
drives this thrillingly unpredictable, blood-stained fear trip. Jackie (Hannah
Emily Anderson) and Jules (Brittany Allen) are a couple celebrating their one
year anniversary at a secluded cabin in the woods belonging to Jackie’s family.
From the moment they arrive, something changes in Jules’ normally loving wife,
as Jackie (if that even is her real name) begins to reveal a previously unknown
dark side—all building up to a shocking revelation that will pit Jules against
the woman she loves most in a terrifying fight to survive. Defying expectations
at every turn, Director Colin Minihan delivers a nerve-twisting cat and mouse
thriller built around a shattering tale of heartbreak and betrayal.
WHAT KEEPS YOU ALIVE was made in the woods of Muskoka and had its world premier
at SXSW 2018 and has been met with critical acclaim, leading up to its Canadian
premiere at Inside Out Fest, on June 2nd.
This marks the third film of Minihan and Allen as a couple. They met 5 years
ago on the set of EXTRATERRESTRIAL, which premiered at Tribeca Film Festival
and was released by IFC Midnight. A year and a half later, they traveled to the
desert outside of Las Vegas to shoot their second film IT STAINS THE SANDS RED,
which won the Midnight X-Treme Award at Sitges International Festival and had
its North American premiere at the Los Angeles Film Festival.
WHAT KEEPS YOU ALIVE is the next evolution of this collaboration, as it is the
first film Minihan has written and directed solo, and it is also the first film
that Allen has composed the musical score for, as well as starred in.
