Mozzy Releases "Menace II Society" Inspired Video For “Walk Up” Single

Sacramento’s top lyricist, Mozzy, is keeping the momentum going with a gritty visual for “Walk Up”. Produced by James Royo, the track highlights Mozzy’s ability to spit smooth bars on top of softer instrumentals, a contrast to his recent heavy-hitting banger "Not Impressive”" and the Ty Dolla $ign and YG-backed “Thugz Mansion,” which surpassed 3 million YouTube views in less than two weeks. The “Walk Up” visual, directed by one of Mozzy’s regular collaborators SUJ, reimagines a scene from the cult classic film Menace II Society and even features the real "Caine”, Tyrin Turner. Hypebeast premiered the video earlier today and said the “song takes stories from a seasoned, weary-eyed street-soldier and delivers them through a combination of tightly-wound flows and a menacingly-funky James Royo production.”

Gearing up to the October 5th release of Gangland Landlord (Mozzy Records/EMPIRE), Mozzy curated an intimate album listening experience this past Tuesday at E.P. & L.P. Rooftop in Los Angeles. At the event, he revealed his limited edition Gangland Landlord Deluxe Box Set. The house-shaped collectors item, lined in custom bandana print, includes the CD as well as the Gangland Landlord embossed pendant (only available with the box set), bandana, styrofoam cup and the 220-piece Mozzy poetry magnet set. Tuesday’s listening event, with sounds provided by DJ Carisma, was a Bay area affair—rappers Too $hort, P-Lo and more came through to support along with EMPIRE executives Ghazi Shami and Nima Etminan. Mozzy recalls just wanting “to be a part of Northern California rap,” and he certainly solidified a top spot after his crowd-pleasing set at Rolling Loud Bay Area earlier this month. Now he’s capitalizing on his momentum, transforming regional devotion into a national movement. “It’s a good time right now,” Mozzy says, “and I’m just happy that I’m a part of it.”
