NikeLab ACG Holiday 2018

Since 2014, Errolson Hugh has teamed with Nike to create ACG collections that meld studies in athletic motion with garments delivering deft technical adaptability. As Hugh explains, the challenge is in defining what a person in a dynamic environment needs, because you “don’t know exactly what they’re going to be doing.”

For his final collaboration on ACG, the work's guardrails are narrowed to strictly consider winter. The ACG Holiday 2018 lineup continues Hugh’s advance of modular systems, employing discrete solutions within individual garments and throughout the assembled pieces to solve for complete coverage.

“We’re trying to explore what a full, all-conditions fit means in terms of having the maximum amount of protection possible,” he says. “Our ultimate goal is for the wearer to have a moment of realization and think, ‘Oh, I'm comfortable. I feel protected. I look great.’ And then not have to worry about those things anymore.”

To that end, he’s helped form new silhouettes — a women’s cargo pant and a men’s down parka — and refined ACG constants like the ACG 3L Gore-Tex Coat and ACG Deploy Cargo Pant. He’s also given a winter remix to a past hit, turning the much-loved poncho into a 3-in-1 affair that includes a down fill vest. Each of these garments connect to a shared ethos of modularity.

“Modularity continues to be a key factor for ACG and is a great attribute because you can change the pieces to meet specific needs," says Hugh. "We can shorten the down parka, for example. We’ve developed a new three-part collar that's on the double funnel coat, and there is also a removable hood with a funnel that can be set in multiple positions depending on condition."

Additionally, the liners and insulators from previous ACG seasons also work with the latest shells, a concrete reminder that Hugh’s work with ACG has been about adding to a suite of solutions rather than obsoleting past work.

Outerwear in the collection is complemented by elevated accessories including touch-screen gloves, a water-resistant beanie, a utilitarian ACG Vest and a new Sherpa fleece hoodie and pants.

The result: Hugh’s definition of complete coverage.

The ACG Holiday 2018 collection launches November 23 in Europe, South Korea and Japan. It releases December 21 in North America and December 20 in Greater China.
