Scarborough Town Centre Celebrates Lunar New Year with Special Performance Shows from January 18 to 19
This Lunar New Year, Scarborough Town Centre invites the community to join in its celebration of the Year of the Rat on Saturday, January 18 and Sunday, January 19 in Centre Court. Bringing back its annual crowd-favourite shows, guests will see an exciting lineup of performances like traditional lion dances and be able to meet the God of Fortune to ring in luck for the new year! During the opening show, a special press conference will be held, followed by an Eye Dotting Ceremony with the lion dancers. This celebration is one of the most popular cultural festivities in the GTA.
“We’re proud to be welcoming the Year of the Rat with our annual Lunar New Year celebrations in Centre Court, educating shoppers on Chinese traditions through an entertaining show,” says Lisa Resnic, Marketing Manager, Scarborough Town Centre. “Always a crowd pleaser, we’re excited to have Scarborough Town Centre be a social hub for our local communities to come celebrate their cultures in a fun, inviting and authentic way.”
Event highlights will include an opening press conference, traditional eye dotting ceremony, lion dance performances and folk dancers. The God of Fortune and the Rat will be present as well to spread good luck and wealth to shoppers. Lei see (red envelopes) will be given out to fortunate attendees.
Guest Services will be situated in Centre Court, handing out wish cards for visitors to fill out and attach onto the wall of wishes. For the celebrations, STC encourages guests to come dress in red, a prominent lucky colour according to Chinese customs symbolizing good luck.
