“TOOK IT TOO FAR”

Blurring the lines between modern-day rap and contemporary R&B, $VN (pronounced “Seven”) are a Toronto based duo made up of Mississauga natives nyXsun and SAGS. Returning with their new single “Took It Too Far”, the track is a showcase of the duo’s artistic craft and versatility as multifaceted performers.

Delivering memorable rhymes over a trap-infused instrumental laced with woozy guitar rhythms and synths, the empowering chorus by SAGS and emphatic verses by nyXsun showcases the pair’s lyrical prowess - detailing their approach to attaining success while remaining unfazed by their haters.

“The track started in the hands of our good friend and collaborator, Shubs. He sent the beat over to us and we immediately fell in love with the production style. It has a sinister tone which invoked a lot of pent-up anger and aggression in us. We got on the mic and let our emotions run free”, nyXsun explains.

“We mainly wanted to capture the fact that we’ve moved on from our naive beginnings in the music industry, and now we’re in our own lane - avoiding distractions and grinding to attain our dreams. The outro was added by us late in the production process after we felt like the track needed to end on a fierce and energetic note. We’re thrilled with how it came out and we’re excited for our fans worldwide to vibe with the song!”

$VN began releasing self-produced singles in 2018 and have been revered for their contrasting yet complementary vocal styles. With 9 singles under their belts, their genre-infusing music has charted on SoundCloud’s “New and Hot Canadian R&B”, aired on major Canadian radio stations such as Toronto’s Hip-Hop Flow 93.5, and been featured on popular Spotify and Audiomack playlists. Along with their musical endeavors, they're working on building their brand and collective, MØD.

For 2020, $VN set their focus on crafting a rich soundscape, and “Took It Too Far” is indication of their astute musical talent.

Keep Up With $VN
