About "Drive":
With its effortless blend of an addictive compilation of synths and rhythms, Drive is the perfect example of R&B at its best. The entire song details the unfolding of a less-than-perfect relationship with vocalist Justine Tyrell reminding her problematic partner that “it’s like we’re on automatic and we just drive each other away”.Timothonius and Matthew Zoeteman’s flawlessly modern production provide her with a beat so smooth and sensual you’re immediately captivated and Tyrell’s vocal capabilities make the most of it. The soulful tune ebbs and flows until ceasing dramatically to make way for piano accompaniment and Tyrell finally admitting “We’re broken and knew it all along”.
Quote from Justine
“This song captures the moments of what is imminently the last drive taken with a flame, blaring with silences and the realization that the love has slipped away. The blurring of street lights and the tension of quiet gazes, fill the spaces of all of the words that are going unsaid. Intimately personal and inspired by the dark sonics of the production soundscape, Drive tells a story of how sometimes the loneliest places we go, are together.”
