AFROWAVETO Toronto’s newest Black music festival concludes winter concert series on March 24th

AFROWAVETO, Toronto’s newest Black music festival concludes its virtual winter concert series on March 24th with a power packed lineup of Toronto’s rising rap, dancehall, R&B, afrobeat, and reggaeton stars of today and tomorrow. Following AFROWAVETO's hugely successful all-female Black History Month concert, and serving as a lead up to this year’s forthcoming festival, The Invincible Showcase will be streaming on AFROWAVETO's YouTube page. The goal and aim of this series is to intentionally champion a more diverse and inclusive urban music scene in Toronto, while bridging the gap between more obvious Black music forms (rap, R&B) and less recognized genres (Afrobeats, dancehall). This edition features sizzling music performance sets by:

EverythingOshauN - EverythingOShauN was born to immigrant parents of Nigerian and Jamaican descent. With the help of his producer and brother, Xpress aka DJXP, his music has been profiled in notable media such as Noisey, Complex, Now Magazine and Exclaim, while some of his standout songs like “Lowry” or “Load MGMT” - which was played at Toronto Raptors games during their 2019 NBA Championship run, by the team’s official DJ 4Korners - has cemented him as One To Watch. OShauN has created original music for Doordash’s official documentary, Soul of the City, while his track, “Come and See” was featured in a TIFF film and the hit Starz television series Heels. 

Témi - Born in Nigeria and raised in Toronto, Témi (Pronounced TayMe) is an R&B solo artist whose former group Untitl3d were signed by GRAMMY Award-winning rapper Ludacris’ record label Disturbing Tha Peace (DTP) and Def Jam. With his former group, Témi performed on the stages of BET’s 106 & Park and got featured with Ludacris on MTV Jams. After five years together, the group decided to part ways. Témi did not stop his dreams and continued to grow his solo career, returning from Atlanta back to Toronto and winning the 2017 African Entertainment Award for “Best Breakout Artist of the Year” and garnering a nomination as "Breakout Canadian Musician" for the Notable Awards in 2018. Recently he’s been working on his new EP ROME which will be released in 2022. 

 

Lexxicon - Jamaican-born, Toronto bred artist Lexxicon is known for his dance-oriented dancehall, Afrobeats, pop and hip-hop influenced sound. Lexxicon lived in Birmingham (England) and New York City (USA) in his early years, before settling in Toronto. He has gained a strong, committed audience for his unique sound, and has been featured in a wide array of noteworthy local media including Exclaim, Breakfast Television, eTalk, Now Magazine and CBC Radio. 

 

GabyBoy - Gabyboy's father Jorge Eduardo Brito is an accomplished international singer-songwriter. His strong musical lineage translated into him performing on stage from the age of two and releasing his first studio album at the age of 11. When Gabriel and his family moved to Los Angeles, he was able to perform at the Latin GRAMMY Street Parties, and attend the Latin Billboard Awards and BMI Music Awards. Beloved in Toronto’s reggaeton scene, his live show has been captivating audiences for years. 

 

Bugatti Bonsu - Bugatti Bonsu is a Ghanaian-Canadian recording artist, songwriter and entrepreneur from Toronto. He began his musical journey following the passing of his brother, a life moment that gave him the courage to pursue a career in music, further inspiring his debut EP No Fear and his clothing brand “NO FEAR MOVEMENT”. His music has been featured on internationally renowned platforms such as GRM-Daily, Link Up TV, and Worldstarhiphop. 

 

Nathan Baya - Nathan Baya is an artist, spoken word poet and dancer, born and raised in Toronto's Jane and Finch community. Coming from an underprivileged community written off by many, Baya used his art to redefine what his community means to him and the world. He not only aspires to create opportunities for himself as a local artist but for other artists as well. With every barrier he breaks he hopes to open the door for others - "Each one, teach one!"  

Jbwai - Jbwai is a Cameroonian Afro Pop musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer who has successfully etched out a place for his himself on the local Toronto scene with his unique musical expression that draws upon afrobeat, makossa, salsa and pop influences. 

Don Richie - Born Kareem Richards in Toronto, of Jamaican parentage, Don Richie has spent the last five years perfecting his catchy “singjay” vocal style which is heavily influenced by reggae and dancehall legends such as Buju Banton, Sean Paul and Mavado. His unique blend of reggae with modern pop and afrobeat sounds has created a new dancehall style and music lane that is unique to him alone.
