TRAVIS SCOTT’S CELEBRITY SOFTBALL CLASSIC TO SUPPORT HBCU’S AT MINUTE MAID PARK ON FEBRUARY 16TH, 2023
Travis Scott & his Cactus Jack Foundation, in conjunction with Project H.E.A.L., will host the Cactus Jack Foundation HBCU Celebrity Softball Classic on February 16, 2023. The Celebrity Softball Classic will feature an all-star lineup of baseball Hall of Famers and A-list entertainers who will participate in a Homerun Derby and Softball Game. Last year’s “Fall Classic” celebrity softball game featured Travis Scott, Kendall Jenner, Mookie Betts, Gary Sheffield and Hall of Famers Reggie “Mr. October” Jackson and Jeff Bagwell. Ticket proceeds will benefit the Waymon Webster Scholarship Fund, which provides financial support to HBCU seniors for final tuition fees, and allows those students to graduate and receive their college diploma on-time. Tickets available via www.astros.com/cactusjack
This event supports Scott’s longstanding commitment to providing scholarship opportunities for students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). It is a cause that is important to Scott given his family’s longtime legacy studying, working at and supporting HBCUs: his mother Wanda attended Grambling University, his father Jacques went to Prairie View A&M, where his brother Josh currently studies and his sister Jordan graduated from Howard University last year. His grandfather, Waymon Webster, was an alumnus and dean of Prairie View A&M graduate school and is the namesake for the Waymon Webster Scholarship Fund given out by the Cactus Jack Foundation and Project H.E.A.L., which helps HBCU students who are experiencing last-minute financial adversity graduate on time with their class. In 2022, the Waymon Webster Scholarship Fund provided $1,000,000 in total scholarships to 100 HBCU seniors to apply towards their tuition fees.
This month, the Astros Foundation announced a partnership with Scott’s Cactus Jack Foundation as the title sponsor of the first annual Cactus Jack HBCU Classic, a round-robin collegiate baseball tournament highlighting HBCUs and their baseball programs on opening weekend of college baseball, Feb. 17-19, 2023. The Cactus Jack HBCU Classic will be held at Minute Maid Park and will be a highlight of Division I college baseball's 2023 opening weekend. The six schools participating in the inaugural event include Texas Southern University (Houston, Texas), Prairie View A&M (Prairie View, Texas), Southern University and A&M College (Baton Rouge, La.), Grambling State University (Grambling, La.), Jackson State University (Jackson, Miss.), Mississippi Valley State University (Itta Bena, Miss.)
