Toronto Based Alt-Rock Group, Birds of Bellwoods Shares "Figure It Out" from their 'Everything You Want' Album Due Feb. 10

Toronto-based alt-rock group, Birds of Bellwoods share their radio single, “Figure It Out” from their album Everything You Want due February 10, 2023, via MNRK Music Group.

In discussing the song, the band said, “The most literal and direct in its verses, this song is a celebration of anxiety. It’s a panic attack you can dance to, a therapist’s notebook set to music. The reality of our generation: overhyped, underslept, spread too thin, and trying too hard. What if we never figure it out?”

The album is a triumph of harmony-drenched alt-rock anthems and deft lyrical empathy. The raucous yet radio-ready collection is a fearless ode to self-acceptance. Produced by Grammy winner Dave Schiffman (Vampire Weekend, Haim, PUP), Everything You Want delivers an intense release of shared emotions through ultra-relatable lyrics, huge hooks, and dirty guitars intertwined with dreamy synths, the album comes to life.

“There’s laughing, crying, and a lot of energy!” said the band, and increasingly cultured songcraft further honed while shut away during the pandemic. It’s one of those rare records that manages to be simultaneously epic and intimate, both for the masses and for your ears only.

Call-to-action first single “One by One” erupts with irresistible hooks and infectious riffs. “It draws on the sound that we’ve become popular for while still stretching into new territory,” says guitarist, Chris Blades. The follow-up single, “Let the Light In,” which originated when frontman, Stephen Joffe was trapped in a Newfoundland ice storm, is the harmony-rich, subtly psychedelic beacon in a darkness of depression, and, “Figure It Out” continues the band’s history of boldly confronting mental health issues. “We’re all anxious / we’re all depressed / we’re all on our last cigarette,” begin lyrics that encapsulate Everything You Want’s broader themes of the fragility of youth, fear, doubt, and hope. “Let go, release, let yourself be free. That’s what we want people to feel,” says the band. “We’re allowed to be imperfect. We’re allowed to be in pain. Without that darkness, we’d never see the stars.”

“It’s a celebration of anxiety. It’s shouting our hopes and our fears in a way that you can dance to,” says Joffe. “And everyone can say, yeah, I feel that too.”
