Summer Dennis Shines at The Howard Theatre Opening for Melanie Fiona
Last night, The Howard Theatre was alive with soul, style, and raw vocal power as Grammy-winning artist Melanie Fiona delivered a breathtaking headlining set. But before she took the stage, hometown powerhouse Summer Dennis lit the room ablaze, leaving the crowd on their feet and buzzing about D.C.'s own rising R&B star.
Summer Dennis took the stage with confidence and grace, easing into her set with the sultry “You and Me” and building momentum with every song. Her soulful vocals, commanding stage presence, and deep connection to the audience proved she’s not just opening shows—she’s opening hearts. From seductive slow jams to high-powered anthems, Summer kept the crowd engaged and on their feet. When she launched into her new single “Ain’t No Way,” the room erupted, dancing and singing along with the kind of energy usually reserved for headliners—closing the set with the fan-favorite “Pink Lotus.”
“Opening for Melanie Fiona at The Howard Theatre—right here in my hometown—meant everything to me,” said Summer Dennis. “To be able to share the stage with someone I’ve looked up to, in a city that raised me, felt like a full-circle moment. I’m just getting started, but last night reminded me why I do this.”
