A Homecoming Week That Celebrated a Centennial, Honored Its Royal Court and Ended in a Comeback Win
They came from near and far, and for one week, everyone was home. Grambling State University closed out Homecoming 2026 this past weekend, welcoming alumni, students and families back to the place where everybody is somebody. Centered on 100 Years of Tiger Athletics, and set within the university's 125th anniversary year, this homecoming carried a little more meaning than most: a celebration of a century of Grambling champions, legends and traditions that helped define Black college sports.
Between the music and the memories, Grambling also honored one of homecoming's most cherished traditions: the crowning of its royal court. Paris Robinson was named the 73rd Miss Grambling State University, joined by her royal court: Miss Senior Madison Walker, Miss Junior Kerri Brown, Miss Sophomore Alysse Davis and Miss Freshman Cali Cotton.
On Saturday, October 3, following the annual Homecoming Parade down Main Street, a sea of black and gold filled Eddie G. Robinson Memorial Stadium. The Tigers delivered a finish worthy of the week, erasing a 10-point deficit to defeat Alcorn State 63–59 in a thrilling Homecoming victory.
Topping off the celebration was the release of J.Crew's limited-edition Collegiate Collection capsule with '47 Brand. Grambling State is one of just 15 universities featured in the vintage-inspired collection of premium sweaters, rugby shirts and caps bearing official university marks, carrying the black and gold to fashion audiences nationwide.
“This was more than a Homecoming. It was a moment 125 years in the making. To see the World Famed and Tiger Athletics celebrate a century of excellence, our alumni coming home in record numbers, and our Tigers respond with the resilience Grambling State has always embodied—that is who we are. This is a historic year for our university, and this weekend gave the world a glimpse of what makes Grambling so special.”
- Martin Lemelle Jr., President of Grambling State University.
For the Grambling family, homecoming is more than a reunion. It is a promise kept every year; no matter how far you go, there is always a place where everybody is somebody, and it will always welcome you home.
Up next, the Tigers head to New Orleans for the Bayou Classic, November 26–28, where Grambling State will renew its storied rivalry with Southern University during a weekend that also includes the highly anticipated Battle of the Bands and the iconic Bayou Classic halftime show.
