Living Artfully in Frelighsburg: An Encounter with a Talented Duo

During a visit with Caroline Sidaros and Alain Desgagné, their enthusiasm for their home in Frelighsburg, a charming village bordered by hills and forests, is evident. This designer couple has managed to leverage the peaceful nature surrounding them to create a space that reflects who they are, in harmony with the materials and landscapes that envelop it.

"Here, it's kind of our haven of peace, designed so that each space is pleasant to live in and easy to maintain," Caroline says.

One of the first things noticeable is the subtle use of Centura materials, present in every corner. From the living room to the outdoor terrace, the ceramic tiles from the GLOCAL collection, in 48 x 48 format for the interior, ensure visual flow and incomparable ease of maintenance. As for the pool surround, the GLOCAL tiles in 24 x 24 format, with their slip-resistant finish, provide both safety and elegance. Alain and Caroline chose natural tones and materials that adapt to all seasons.

"It was important for us to have a floor that’s practical, easy to clean, and that maintains a flawless look, even with constant movement between the inside and outside," explains Alain Desgagné.

A home designed for daily living

Caroline Sidaros and Alain Desgagné love hosting family and friends. That’s why they envisioned flexible, functional spaces, such as the "hybrid room" that transforms from a daytime living room to an additional bedroom at night, thanks to a clever curtain system.

"We wanted something welcoming, where guests feel comfortable, but also a space we can use every day when we’re alone," Caroline says.

The couple also shares clever details like built-in cabinets and a kitchen without upper cabinets, adding a touch of minimalist elegance, while offering hidden storage.

The exterior: An extension of the home

Outside, the terrace and pool, surrounded by slip-resistant tiling, become a relaxation spot in the summer, a little paradise for the family.

"In addition to being aesthetically pleasing, Centura tiles remain comfortable to the touch, even in full sunlight, and require minimal maintenance. This was essential for us, as we want to enjoy our time here rather than worry about upkeep," shares Alain Desgagné.

The terrace naturally extends from the kitchen, with a large table and a lounge area for meals, or to simply enjoy the view.

The art of hosting, inspired by luxury hotels

Passionate about hotel design, Caroline Sidaros and Alain Desgagné have incorporated touches inspired by their stays in hotels, where every detail is considered for comfort and aesthetics. The guest bathroom and bedrooms, designed with understated elegance, offer a refined experience, reminiscent of a boutique hotel ambiance. Born in the 1980s, boutique hotels combine bold design, personalized service, and an intimate atmosphere. With their small size and unique character, these establishments attract clients seeking discreet elegance and authentic experiences, resulting in a perfect balance of refined comfort and accessibility. Their approach prioritizes functional and welcoming spaces, where each piece of furniture and every material contributes to a warm atmosphere.

Their home in Frelighsburg embodies thoughtful design, inspired by nature and enhanced by Centura materials that add durability and elegance. Visiting their space, it’s clear that every detail, from the house’s orientation to the materials used, is the result of shared thought.

For Caroline and Alain, their home is more than an architectural project—it’s the culmination of their vision of the art of living, blending functionality with serenity.
